The Grand Narrative of the Bible

In this section we are going to look at how the biblical writers explore, struggle to understand for themselves and explain what God is trying to achieve in creating the earth and the human race. The Bible is full of people, whether kings or prophets or ordinary people, trying to understand why things happen the way they do and where it is all leading. The texts they each produced with the influence and oversight of Divine inspiration have come together to reveal a grand narrative with an end goal in view. A key piece of that explanation is given in Isaiah's prophecy.

A further hint is given in the last book of the Bible.

Now look at a third passage in the book of Numbers for some more information.

If you have marginal references, this verse in Numbers sends us looking at other passages giving the same idea.

Psalm 72:19
Habakkuk 2:14

Bringing all these verses together in summary we can say:

a) God created the world to be inhabited
b) The inhabitants were created as part of God's purpose, or will, and
c) That purpose involves filling the earth with His glory.
